More Blocks from the Splendid Sampler

Yep, the quilting bug has got me. Went to a regional quilters day with a friend yesterday - joined the group which has about six regional days a year and was therefore able to borrow from their library. Jumped into bed early last night so I could lose myself in the magazines and books.

Off to a dance competition later this afternoon where my daughter is doing a contemporary solo but in the meantime I have a little bit of time to post the recent blocks I have made from designs from The Splendid Sampler.

Block 10 : Iowa designed by Sherri McConnell

Block 11 : Crocheted Thoughts designed by Alyssa Thomas

Block 12 : Checkerboard designed by Pat Sloan

Block 13 : Scrap Star designed by Corey Yoder

Block 14 : Flying High designed by Janet Clare

Block 15 : Family Affair designed by Janice Ryan

Block 16 : Pieces of Friendship designed by Lindsay Mayland

Block 17 : Family Stars designed by Kimberly Jolly

This was a bonus block I did for Easter based on a design by Pat Sloan

This is a mug rug I made for my mother-in-law for her birthday. I got the tutorial from here:

I had better go and make a quick alteration to my daughter's dance costume and sort out what we are going to do with her hair as she has had it cut from very long to very very short so I can't chuck it in a bun like I would normally do. Hope you are all having a great weekend.

My daughter in her contemporary costume from a previous competition.

  1. Block 16 looks so relaxing. I like the colour combination.
Your Easter block is very cute. :)

Good luck to your daughter for her competition. :)

  2. Hi Sharee! Although I am not a quilter, I admire those who can and do! The variety of these blocks is enormous! But is the idea like a block exchange where everybody makes quilting blocks to share, or that everyone makes only one block to contribute towards one quilt?

    1. Hi Elizabeth. I have also admired the work of quilt artists but haven't let myself dabble in their world until now. The Splendid Sampler is a project created by two quilt designers, Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson. Everyone makes their own quilt but there is a wonderful on-line community (Facebook)much like our wonderful miniature blog community who support and encourage each other and share their blocks on-line. The final quilt will comprise of 100 6 inch blocks using a number of different patchwork/quilting/embroidery techniques with block designs by 86 different designers. Two blocks are released each week on a Sunday and a Thursday and there are bonus blocks and bonus projects thrown in to keep us busy between blocks if we want to do them. It has been a great introduction into quilting for me as I am getting a chance to try different techniques.
